Notifications Settings
Your notification settings
Canvas sends out notifications to you when something happens in your course. These are preset, but you can make changes yourself at the account level or course level if you want to increase or decrease the number of notifications. Changes at the account level mean that your changes apply to all your courses on Canvas. Changes at the course level mean that changes only occur at a specific course.
Change your account-level settings
To access your account-level settings, click Account (1) in the Canvas menu and click Notifications (2). Changes you make here will apply to all your courses.
Change your course-level settings
To change your settings on a specific course, go to the course homepage and select View Course Notifications in the right menu. Settings you make here will only apply to the specific course. Here you can also choose to turn off the notifications for a course completely.
Your notification options at account- and course level
Whether you make your notification settings at the account- or course level, it looks more or less the same. You can select the frequency for each type of notification and decide where to send your notifications. As in the example below, you can connect both your school email and your private email, as well as use Canvas on other devices such as the app, and have different notification settings for each. By clicking on the symbol (1), you get different options for how often you should receive notifications. You can choose to receive notifications immediately, have them as a daily summary, weekly summary, or not receive them at all by turning off the notifications (2). Scroll down the page to make specific settings for Discussions, Scheduling or Conferences.
Turn off meeting notifications
When teachers create meeting bookings, Canvas automatically sends out notifications for each occasion. For you, as a student, to not have to receive many emails about available times, you can turn off or limit the frequency of meeting notifications at the account- or course level. If so, scroll down the page with notifications (described above) and change the frequency of Appointment Signups and Appointment Availability.
Push Notifications
If you use the Canvas Student app you can allow push notifications to be sent out on your mobile device. You can manage these settings through the 'Push Notifications' button in the column on the right.
Keep in mind that the settings selected on the app will override setting changes made on the website.
