Security in Zoom

LU Zoom differs from the free version of Zoom in a number of ways *. When you use LU Zoom together with the Zoom client or app, all data is handled within Europe, ie in accordance with the Data Protection Ordinance.

It is important that the zoom meetings are secure both when you create the meeting as well as when you participate in a meeting. To be sure that your information is protected in the best way, always log in with your student account before meetings. It is also important to keep the client and the app updated.

Security when you create your meeting

Moreover, the person who organises the meeting can choose to protect the meeting against intrusion in various ways. It is best to set up the meeting so that only those who are logged in to LU Zoom can participate in the meeting. To do this, click in the box 'Request authentication to join' in your meeting settings. If a teacher has set up such a meeting, you will not be able to enter without first logging in with your student account. It is also possible to use a 'Waiting room' and or a 'Passcode' at meetings. The basic settings for a waiting room mean that anyone logged in with their student account will enter the meeting directly, while those who are not logged in will be placed in a waiting room, where the teacher can decide whether or not to admit them.
When creating meetings yourself, be sure to use these security measures. Never spread meeting links in open forums or share them with unauthorized persons. Read more about what settings you can make to protect your own meetings.

Security during an ongoing meeting

It is important that you protect your meeting against unauthorized people who may try to enter. By limiting your meetings to authorized users, using a password, and not sending links to your meeting on public posts or forums online, you can limit the risk of strangers interrupting your session. If your meeting is interrupted by an unwanted guest, you have the ability as host to 'remove guest from meeting' by click on the arrow button next to their icon and selecting 'remove'.

Remove Participant

If you are a host you will find the  Security option in your meny. By clicking on this option (1) and then press Remove Participant (2) the participant list will appear. There you can chose  Remove (3) to remove a participant from your meeting.

* For those who use Free-Zoom, data is regularly handled via servers in the United States, this us not the case with LU's account. LU Zoom also gives both teachers and students access to some functions which are not available in the free version, such as the ability to host meetings with up to 300 participants indefinitely.
