If you’re part of a group, you’ll have a group page in Canvas. There, you can share files, send messages and create pages together. You’ll find the features in the group menu on the left. Only the group and the teacher have access to the page.

The group page

The group page contains the following tabs:

Home: On the home page, you’ll find an overview of the group, similar to the course overview. Among other things, you can see recent activity and upcoming events.
Announcements: Send messages to all students and teaching staff members in the group via Announcements. The announcement will appear on the home page and is easily accessible for everyone to see.
Student-created pages: Within the group, you can create pages which you can fill with text, images, videos, links and similar content. Anyone can create a page by clicking the +Page button. Once the page has been created, anyone in the group can edit it and continue working on it. However, only one person can actively be editing the page at a time.
People: Under People, you can see which group members and teaching staff members are part of the group.
Discussions: Join or start discussions within the group by clicking on +Discussion in the top right-hand corner.
Files: Share files and documents with each other within the group by dragging and dropping files onto the page or clicking Upload in the top right-hand corner.
Collaborations: Collaborations allow you to edit the same document at the same time via Google Docs. For this to work, everyone in the group must have a Google account – which, as a student at LU, you automatically have via your student account – and grant Canvas access by clicking on Allow access to Google Drive at the bottom of the page. To get started, click on Start collaboration. The principle is the same as when sharing a standard Google Docs document, and a new tab containing the document will open. The difference is that the file you are editing will be easily accessible via Canvas.
