Quizzes

In Canvas, a quiz might be a multiple choice and/or short answer test that is automatically graded, or a written long answer test that has to be manually graded. There are multiple settings your teacher could use, which means the quizzes may work differently. It is important to be attentive to the information given when you start the quiz.

Before Starting a Quiz

At the top of the quiz there will be information about what settings the teacher has chosen. Directly below these settings there may also be other written information from your teacher. How much information is presented depends on which settings your teacher has chosen. Types of information you might find are as follows:

  • Due date - date and time when you are expected to have finished the quiz.
  • Availability - date and time when it is still possible to do the quiz, submissions past the due date will be listed as a late entry. If the availability date has passed the quiz will not be visible, only a short text saying it has closed.
  • Time limit - how much time you will have to complete the quiz once starting it (not every quiz will be timed).
  • Allowed retakes - how many attempts at the quiz you are allowed (not every quiz will have retakes).

Taking the quiz

1. If your teacher has divided the questions onto multiple pages there will be a button to take you to the next page.

2. Canvas automatically saves your progress in the quiz as you are participating. This means you do not have to save anything manually.

3. At the very bottom of the page there is a button to submit your answers. This button will submit all your answers and end your current attempt at the quiz. If you have skipped any questions you will receive a warning telling you what you have missed and you will be presented with an option if you wish to submit or if you want to revisit any questions.

If you feel unsure about a question and would like to answer it later on you can flag it by clicking on the small marker next to the question. This will not be visible to your teacher. If your teacher has made the decision for the questions to be answered in a specific order you will not be able to flag the question and you will not be able to revisit questions.

In the right hand column you can see an overview of how many questions there are, which questions you have answered and how much time you have left. You can also jump between questions if your teacher has made that function available.

Finding your Results

If a quiz is automatically graded you can see the results directly at the top right of the page. Depending on which settings your teacher has chosen you may also see which specific answers were correct further down the page.

Quiz results will always be shown as points. These results are however not the same as grades. Remember that official grades are only available through LADOK.
