Registration for a degree project or applied work

There are a few things you must do before you can start working on your project. What follows applies to degree projects FYSM34FYSM64, FYSK04, and partially to the Applied Work FYSB08 (previously FYSB06) and FYSP01

The first step in the process is to apply to the degree project course - this is compulsory. Currently only students who are following a program in Physics at Lund University can apply for the course. If you are a student on one of our programs and cannot apply, contact our study advisors or student administration.

Each kind of project has a corresponding course code. Apply for the one you want to take through universityadmissions.se Links to an external site. (in English) or antagning.se Links to an external site. (in Swedish). Read more about the course codes on this Canvas page:

Make sure that you meet all the pre-requisites as specified in the course plans listed above. In addition, once you have finished your degree project you want to meet the requirements for the corresponding degree:

When you have applied for the course, the next step is to be admitted and if you are admitted you have to accept the offer.

Instructions and documents

All students who have been admitted to the degree project course will receive the information gathered on the following page:

There are a number of documents that contain the information you need before, during and after your degree project. Please make sure that you carefully read them through and ask the course teacher, examiner or supervisor if you have any questions. Proceed as following:

  • Read the conditions for degree project (diploma work) carefully: Download Appendix A to the registration form
    • See also the short check-list:  Download Appendix B
    • FYSB06 does not result in a degree, so a thesis and independent examination are not required: the credits are awarded by the supervisor
  • Find a supervisor at the Department of Physics and prepare together a project plan with a timeline.
  • Fill in – electronically – the PDF diploma work registration form and email it together with the project plan to the Diploma Office: diploma_office@fysik.lu.se.
  • Bring a paper copy of the form to the introduction meeting, signed by both you and your supervisor. If you can not attend the meeting, bring it at the nearest opportunity, or send the scan of the co-signed form.
  • Attend the mandatory introduction meeting.

If you fail to follow these preparations appropriately you may very well not be admitted and instead referred to the next occasion the course is given, the following semester.

If you do a project at another university via an exchange program or by other agreement, you must always have a co-supervisor in Lund.
