About the training

This summer training on Expert Knowledge Elicitation is a comprehensive introduction to the methodology of using structured expert judgements to support scientific assessment and uncertainty analysis. The course is held by a group of international tutors with experience in EKE and it’s use in EFSAs work. The course consists of lectures and practical activities, with opportunities to discuss and interact with tutors and other participants.

Learning objectives 

By the end of this course the participant will: 

  • Account for the characteristics of EKE 
  • Explain the role and purpose of EKE in scientific assessment 
  • Explain probabilistic expert judgements 
  • Identify and prioritise tasks in scientific assessment suitable for EKE 
  • Frame a problem for EKE 
  • Identify, select, and motivate experts for an EKE 
  • Decide on training needs for experts 
  • Produce background information for an EKE 
  • Recall, justify and adapt typical protocols for EKE (Cooke, Sheffield, Delphi) 
  • Handle risks and confidentially in an EKE 
  • Document an EKE

Target Audience  

The course is intended for members of the EFSA Scientific Committees and Panels, EFSA working groups, EFSA staff, EFSA’s networks and other interested parties. 

Delivery mode 

Live virtual course with interactive sessions. Note that lectures will not be recorded. Attendance all days are required to complete the course.
