Background of the project
ErasmoPower2X is developing an integrated gigawatt-scale solar power and green hydrogen project in Ciudad Real (Spain) to produce 55,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2029. ErasmoPower2X is to be developed in the municipality of Saceruela (Ciudad Real). The project is located close to the important industrial area of Puertollano and next to the future Spanish Hydrogen Backbone Network which is being developed by Enagás Infraestructuras. The project is currently in its feasibility phase, showing maturity in all key areas including land, water, permitting, and infrastructure, and on track to commence commercial operations in 2029.
Tasks
- Refine and extend a mixed-integer optimization model in Python with Gurobi solver, with a focus on detailed electrolyzer, hydrogen storage, and solar behavior modeling and its by-products.
- Analyze the impact of hybrid (solar + wind + batteries) renewable energy sources compared to solar-only configurations, investigating curtailment in all the scenarios.
- Incorporate investment and system sizing optimization into the model.
- (If two people contribute to the project.) Explore the potential for participation in balancing markets, beyond day-ahead trading.
Necessary experience
Programming (Python), Mathematical Modelling, Techno-economic analysis, Operation research
