The organizational context and the socio-cultural context
In this module, you have had the opportunity to learn more about and reflect upon the relationship between the academic teaching practice and the organizational structures that surrounds it, and what this means to you and for your own work. We have seen that academic teachers often seem to find ways around policies, regulations and reforms that do not fit their perception of good teaching and that, once familiar with the structures that affect our work, we might be able to identify a space of action for our own practice. This space is likely best defined through conversations with colleagues where we can find support for making difficult choices.
As a final step, if you like, you can now turn to the module on collegial context and then come back to this section again. You might now start to relate your ideas about the sociocultural context in which you work to your reflections about organizational context and “space of action” regarding the formal framework that surrounds your role as a teacher.
