SoTL: Introduction

In this module we will look at the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). This form of scholarship is helpful both in gaining a better understanding of teaching and learning, especially in terms of what good academic teaching is, and in learning how to take a systematic approach to developing as an academic teacher.

There are three sections in this module:

1. What is SoTL?
This section explores the foundation of the modern view of SoTL and presents a few different models of SoTL that can help you understand its key attributes. It also explores different views on the relationship between SoTL and the practice of academic teaching.

2. Doing SoTL in your teaching
This section dives into what SoTL work actually looks like and explores how you can get started using SoTL to study and learn about your own teaching and your students' learning.

3. Using SoTL to develop your teaching
This section considers how you can use SoTL in a strategic way to support your own development as an academic teacher.
