Who do you talk to?
Start this module by reflecting on the conversations you have about teaching and learning. We encourage you to think about conversations where you for instance test ideas, seek advice, or vent about challenges in relation to your teaching practice. Who are the people you'd turn to for such conversations?
Use the visualisation below to think about (maybe mark with crosses) who you talk to, in a trustful and serious manner about teaching and learning? Where do you find your conversational partners? Who are they? What signifies your conversations?
If you have the opportunity, reflect on this individually and encourage colleagues to do so as well. You may want to discuss your experiences together, as one opportunity to reflect upon your collegial culture.
In the video about significant conversations and significant networks, we share the empirical results of this exercise, as a basis for an exploratory study on conversations about teaching. You can also read about the study and its finding in this article: Roxå, Torgny & Mårtensson, Katarina (2009) Significant conversations and significant networks - exploring the backstage of the teaching arena, Studies in Higher Education, 34:5,547 — 559.
