Overview

We are going to reform the bachelor programme in Physics, which includes the specialisations FYSI/ENFY/TEOF/ASTR/KEFY. In the new programme, we want to start earlier with the math courses to allow a better progression in the early physics courses. Also, there will no longer be given any courses only in Swedish, but we will offer extra opportunities with Swedish content.

This implies a new set-up of courses, as shown below. The current courses FYSA22/FYSA13/FYSA14/FYSB21/FYSB23 will be terminated and new courses are created. In addition, some content is shifted between courses. Probably, all course codes and course plans will be changed. Some details, such as specific course demands, will be decided upon soon.

The set-up of the new bachelor program

Implications for the students:

If you follow the set-up of the programme as scheduled, you will not notice any problems:

Students, who started up until 2025, will be able to follow the current set-up.
Students, who will start 2026 or later, will follow the new set-up, where the new courses are created in due order.

If you started up until 2025 and take a break or become delayed for other reasons, there may be some friction. However, with the following we will minimize problems as far as possible:

If you missed a part of a course (for example a Lab or an exam) that is terminated, you can complete this within one year after the course has been given the last time. While some exceptions may be possible, we cannot guarantee that you can use parts of uncompleted courses within your education. Thus, it is very important that you are diligent with all sorts of hand-ins and do not postpone any exams and re-exams.
You can replace any current mandatory course by a specific course in the new set-up, so that you can complete the current education (if you started your programme after 2020).
You can use all current mandatory courses within the new programme, if you decide to switch to the new programme.
Mixing between the set-ups using the options 2 or 3 should work fine (with the exception 5) and provides only minor complications due to a different order and some shift of content.
A particular problem arises for students who take a break after the first term, since the new set-up moves the math courses to the beginning. If you start in HT2025 and consider this possibility (maybe due to military service), we strongly recommend that you follow the English version of the current programme and start with the math courses in your first term. Please contact the study advisor for help.

You who are planning to apply for the program in autumn 2026
