Maxwell's equations and special relativity constitute the foundation for electromagnetics, optics, microwave theory, and electric circuits with important applications in particle accelerators, communication systems, and electronics. The course covers Maxwell's equations, basic theory of special relativity, motion of charged particles in electromagnetic fields, radiation from accelerating particles, waveguides, and microwave cavities. 

The finite element software package COMSOL Multiphysics is frequently used in the part of the course that deals with microwaves.
