Hand-in assignment 2 - Dynamics for biodegradation of wastewater

The purpose of the second hand-in assignment is to study the dynamics for biodegradation of for instance process water. We will find the equilibrium point of the system and linearize the system around this point. Using simulations we will study the accuracy of the resulting linear approximation. Finally, we will examine how a PI controller can be used to control the water quality by varying the water flow.

You will use MATLAB with Control System Toolbox and Simulink in the assignment.

The assignment is performed in the same groups of three students, which were formed for hand-in 1. It should take approximately one day to complete.

To complete the assignment you will need MATLAB / Simulink.

Report instructions

  • Include contact information of your group in the first (title) page of your report.
  • The target audience is a student with the same background as yourself.
  • Summarize your results (plots, discussion on the results, all equations that you have derived and answers to all questions) CONCISELY in your report.
  • Add your Matlab code at the end of your report as the Appendix.
  • All necessary solutions and plots should be in a self-contained pdf file.
  • It should be possible to understand all the material presented in your report without running any code.
  • You don't need to include (copy) the theory part from the assignment description.
