Innehåll

Kursen syftar till att ge studenterna förståelse för de grundläggande principerna inom optik och att ge en introduktion till optisk design, med hjälp av ett "ray tracing" program.

Optics and Optical Design, 7.5 credits

Content

The course “Optics and optical design” teaches the basic principles of optics. Starting with ray optics, we will in the following discuss wave optics and its extension Fourier optics. We will then introduce the principles of electro-magnetic optics and discuss polarization and its implications. The last topic of the course is the optics of layered dielectric media. You will also obtain practical knowledge in optical design with the help of the ray tracing software FRED.

FYST43

For admission to the course, knowledge is required equivalent 90 credits in natural sciences and knowledge equivalent to FYSA31 Physics 3, Modern physics, 30 credits, and English B.

FAFF01

Assumed prior knowledge: Basic physics and mathematics.
