Academic resources

This webpage presents a list of links to websites that offer useful academic resources, such as tips for academic writing, referencing and thesis writing. All links open in the same window and take you to the website of that resource.

For exampel:

  • Academic Writing in English at Lund University (AWELU) is an excellent online resource for all students, staff, and faculty writing texts in English. It explains text types, the writing process, grammar issues, referencing, academic integrity, and other writing-related concerns.

  • Harvard Writes Links to an external site.. One of the Centre's favourite resources, this website decodes academic writing expectations by focusing on argument, stakes, structure, and evidence, including videos, example texts and exercises for multiple disciplines. Start here for an overview of why academics write and the essential elements of all academic writing.

Make an appointment

Many students make an appointment to discuss and 'workshop' a text they are currently working on. The ASC is open Monday–Friday with a limited number of appointment slots. Appointment slots tend to fill up quickly, especially mid- to late-semester, so book your spot well in advance of when you would like to come in. If you are bringing a specific assignment,  you are asked to email a copy to the consultant at least 24 hours before your appointment time.

MOOCs: Massive Open Online Courses

Lund University offers MOOCs – free online courses open to anyone with an interest, regardless of previous experience. You can sign up for MOOCs at the Coursera platform. Please note that you cannot include a MOOC as a part of a degree or receive university credits for it.

If you want to learn more about academic writing in English, you are welcome to:

The MOOC Writing in English at University is a resource for university students who are currently involved in writing assignments or degree projects as well as for students who wish to learn about academic writing in order to prepare for future writing tasks at university. Although the course provides guidance to all student writers, it targets specifically those who are writing in second language learner contexts and whose native language is not English.

As well as helping learners to put together their own 'toolbox' of academic writing skills, Writing in English at University will give participants a chance to test out some of these tools, and to reflect on their own development as writers.

Do you know a bit of Swedish and would like to improve your academic writing? You may be able to take the Swedish-taught MOOC  'Akademiskt skrivande'.
