Exercise

Workshop Journal ranking, predatory journals and open access publishing

1.  Alternative 1:  Choose a journal that you have already been published in, are currently
aiming to be published in, or you would like to be published in, either a realistic
     choice or wishful thinking.
Alternative 2: Choose one journal from your field of research from the registers below.

Journal Citation Reports (with WoS-data)

Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers Links to an external site.

Scimago (with Scopus data)

 2.  Check the ranking of the journal in two or more of the registers above.

 3.  Examine the possibilities to publish OA. Check the journal for possible ways to get funding for the article   processing charge (APC).

  4.  If you cannot get funding from LU for OA publishing: Can you pay for OA? Is green OA available as an alternative? Check Sherpa romeo Publisher copyright policies and self-archiving Links to an external site.

  5.  If OA-publishing is possible: Check the creative commons-licenses the journal is offering.

  •   Check Sherpa Romeo/journal website.
  •   Look closely at the publisher's description of CC-BY-NC-ND.

   6. Does the publisher have special rules for publishing articles in a compilation thesis? How does your choice affect the possibility of publishing the article in a compilation thesis?

  • LU has general agreements with the following publishers: IEEE, Elsevier, Cambridge University Press and Portland Press. No permission from the publisher is needed.

 7. Bonus question: Does the journal have any requests or options for your research data?
