Translate and upload captions

Edit and create a new caption in a different language

For subtitles in a different language then the one spoken in the video, you need to download the current caption file and upload it again. This file can then be edited (translated) and used as an additional caption to the video. Here is how to that.

Start with requesting and publishing captions, Then download the caption file.
1. Under manage captions, click on the three dots.
2. Choose download. The captions will be downloaded to your computer as .srt-files in a zipped folder.

In order to open the .srt-file you need to extract the files from the zipped folder. Open the file manager, the folder will appear under downloads.
1. Right click and choose extract all. This creates a new folder where the .srt-files can be found.

 

You can either edit the caption in Notes or Pages or upload it into Canvas Studio and edit directly there.

1. Return to Studio in order to upload the extracted caption file.

1. Choose the language that you will translate into. 

2. Hit upload.

Enter the now extracted folder.
1. In order to see the .srt-file you might need to choose all files in the dropdown menu.
2. Open the file called latest, to make sure that the changes you have made before publishing the captions will be included.

1. You can now translate directly in the editing mode in Canvas Studio.

2. Edit one caption at the time. The caption will be saved automatically when you edit.

3. Close to exit the editing mode. You can always return and pick up where you left off and resume editing.

Remeber that once the .srt-file is uploaded into Studio, the caption is visible when viewing the video. It is not possible yet to unpublish a caption.
