Edit your video
Before you upload your video to My Library, you have the possibility to edit it somewhat in Screencast-o-matic (the screen recording tool). This is explained in the next section (click "Next" on the bottom of this page).
If you've already uploaded your video to My Library, you can edit details and tags Links to an external site., replace a video thumbnail Links to an external site., or add captions (if you created the video yourself; you cannot caption a YouTube video). You can even annotate the video Links to an external site., create a quiz in your video, share your video, or move it to a collection in your Studio Library.
The editing options after having uploaded your video to Studio consist of trimming the video (i.e. cutting the beginning or the end) and cutting (cut a section in the middle of the video). To do this, go to your Studio Library, choose the video you want to edit, and (1) click on the three dots and (2) choose Edit Media.
You have two possibilities to edit. Cut and Trim (1)
TRIM means that you remove either the beginning or the end of the clip. Do this when you want to
- Make a short clips of a larger video.
- You can pick out sections of the video.
- Remove the silence or awkwardness of the beginning or the end.
Finish by either Discard your changes. Or Confirm Trim to save what you have done.
CUT
With cut you can cut out parts of the video, on the timeline. Works best when you
- Want to remove a part that did not work, or where you forgot the words.
- Remove a section that you don't want to include in the video for certain students.
Remember: When you edit, try to find places in the video where the cut is as unnoticeable as possible. For example, when the background is the same and no one is talking.
After you have confirmed the Cut or the Trim, you save changes. Then you have two possibilities:
Replace original media - Over writes the exisiting video and creates a new version of the video.
Create a copy - Creates an entirely new video in your studio library, and leaves the orginal video intact. This is a good idea to use if you have picked out part of a larger clip (with the trim-function).
Please, note the following:
- You can only edit media you access through the My Library page.
- You cannot edit embedded course media from its location in the course.
- If you edit a media file that is already embedded in a course, you can update it to the edited version by removing and re-embedding the file in the course location.
- You can only edit media you have uploaded to Studio.
- You cannot edit imported Youtube and Vimeo videos.
