In Canvas conference you create your online meetings directly in your course. The default setting is that all students in your course can access your meeting once you started it. If you only want certain students to join, you need to specify this in the settings. For more information please read the instructions below.

Creating the online meeting room

Log in to Canvas, open your Course and choose

Conferences in the Course navigation
Click on the button + Conference

Settings and adding participants

General settings

Once you create a new meeting, a window will open up for you where you can do the following:

Name: Give your meeting a name. For example course code, date and time "STVA12, 12 May 2020, 9-11"
Type: Big Blue Button is the name of the service. You do not need to do anything here.
Duration: Use this to set the time limit for the meeting. Please note that the countdown starts when you as a teacher start the meeting.
Options:
- Enable recordings: Yes, you can enable recordings. Please note however that the recording is only saved for 14 days.
- No time-limit: If you want no time limits at all. Suitable if you are uncertain about how when the meeting ought to end.
Description: Write a description of your meeting.
Members - by default all your students/course participants can join the meeting.

Adding participants

The default settings enables all the students/course participants in the course to join the meeting once it is started. If you would like to meet individual students you need to do the following:

Untick the checkbox Invite all Course members
Check the participants you would like to meet.

Click on the button Update in order to save.
