Information for upcoming students

This information is directed to students who have applied for one of the project courses given by the Department of Physics.

Before you can start on your project (a degree project or an applied work) there are several steps that are needed. In short, you have to:

  1. find a supervisor and a project,
  2. be admitted to and accept the offered position on the course,
  3. fill out the registration form and write a project plan,
  4. attend the mandatory introduction meeting,
  5. be registered on the course by the student administration.

For more details on each of these steps we refer to the Canvas information page.

The first important step is that you start the process of finding a supervisor and a project. You need to start this even before being admitted to the course. For some pointers on how to find a supervisor and a project please see our links.

The next step is to be admitted to the course (the results are usually available shortly before the term start). For this you need to fulfil the prerequisites for the respective courses as given in corresponding syllabi. Note that in addition to the general requirements you also must have sufficient knowledge in the subject area of the degree project, which is approved by the examiner before the project begins.

For FYSK04 projects, the following applies in addition to the official syllabus:

  • You must have completed at least 135 credits (hp) in your program, including elective courses.
  • All mandatory courses in your specialization must be completed, although up to two may still be pending.

If your results for ongoing courses are not yet available, we will assess the likelihood of your passing before granting admission. In cases of uncertainty, conditional admission may be offered. The condition will be lifted on an individual basis depending on to what degree you fulfill the general prerequisites when the course starts. Note that you cannot be registered on the degree project course before the conditions have been lifted.

To be registered on the course you have to attend the introduction meeting and hand in the registration form, signed by you and the supervisor(s), as well as a project plan. Note that you cannot register yourself on a project course – it is done by the student administration.

More information will follow once the admission process has been finished.
