Oracle Virtual Box
In order for you to do Lab 2 from home you must have Java 8 installed. If you do not have that and for some reason don't want to install it we provide an Oracle Virtual Box running Linux with the software for Lab 2 ("JGrafchart") and Java 8 pre-installed. When you start the virtual machine it will automatically start JGrafchart. If you want to use Java 8 only, you simply exit JGrafchart and start a terminal window. You can copy files back and forth between your virtual machine and your normal operating system using 'scp'.
Instructions for installing/running JGrafchart in Virtualbox
- Install VirtualBox (https://www.virtualbox.org/ Links to an external site.) if you do not already have it. VMWare hypervisors should also work.
- Start VirtualBox and import the .ova file Links to an external site. to create a new virtual machine instance.
- Start the virtual machine. JGrafchart should start automatically.
There is a possibility that VirtualBox refuses to start the VM complaining that virtualization is not enabled in the CPU (something VTx .....). In that case you have to reboot to change BIOS settings and enable virtualization.
