Course Syllabus & Textbook

Purpose: The purpose of this course is to teach you the basics about methods and techniques in numerical analysis.

Understanding a) how methods work b) when and how to apply them  c) validity and  interpretation of results is more important than simply getting a numerical answer to a question

  • Textbook: Sauer, T: Numerical Analysis, 2nd edition. Pearson Education, 2013, ISBN: 9781292023588.
    Electronic versions of the lecture notes will be provided.
  • Course Syllabus: Error analysis, numerical methods for systems of (non-) linear equations, the least squares method, polynomial interpolation, splines, Bezier curves, numerical integration,computation of eigenvalues, the Discrete Fourier transform.   • Computers & Software: Python or Matlab. Note however that none of these are allowed during the exam!
