Ethics and AI

Content:

Artificial Intelligence and social robots are increasingly becoming part of our daily lives, giving rise to some important issues such as: what happens if a robot commits a crime? who is responsible for an accident made by a self-driving car? what do we do if a person hurts a dog robot? whose fault is it if a chatbot steals our data while we are talking to it?

This lecture proposes a critical and participatory discussion on a series of ethical (and non-ethical) aspects posed by the use and application of artificial intelligence systems. The course focuses on selected (non-exhaustive) aspects of ethics in social robotics, and includes the following topics:

  • An introduction to ethics from a philosophical perspective
How ethics is applied in AI: Research and data
Ethics in social robotics: situations, contexts and regulations

What you should learn: Understand some key concepts of how ethics is defined, and aspects mainly related to the use of AI and social robots.
