Study Tips
As a student you are expected to work full time, that is 8h/day, 40h/ week.
Here is some practical advice, please see the following video: //vimeo.com/169193980 (Links to an external site.) (Länkar till en extern sida.).
Let me try to complement what was said in the video!
Try to become prepared to the lectures. You can do this by reading the obligatory literature beforehand. Find which parts of the book and which articles will be covered in a given lecture and read the material. If you read the material before the lecture you will be able to follow the lecture easier and you will be prepared to engage in discussions.
This first reading can be as uninterrupted as possible; that is, read the chapter without worrying much about remembering the details.
Next, and after the lecture, read the literature again in depth. Use a pen or a pencil as you go and make notes. Don’t use a highlighter! Sweeping the felt tip of a highlighter across some words on a page provides some instant gratification; you can even imagine that the highlighted words will somehow be transferred to your knowledge database. You believe that you have selected what is important, and when you review the readings assignments, you have only read the highlighted words. But this is an illusion!
It is the very act of retrieving information that signals our brain to keep that information!
And remember: Learning implies that you are active, not passive!
