Where would you like to go?

This Canvas course will help you plan and apply for a European mobility programme, with a focus on funding from the Erasmus+ programme. This allows you to travel to any of the countries participating in the Erasmus+ programme, i.e. EU countries as well as a number of what is known as third countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey).

Since 1 January 2021, the UK is outside the Erasmus cooperation. However, the good news is that LU has decided to allocate university-specific Erasmus funds so that staff can also take part in mobility cooperation with the UK during the coming academic years (2025–2026 and 2026-2027, with the last possible day of mobility being 31 August 2027). Please note that the number of mobilities is limited; first come, first served.

Maybe you already know where you want to go, and you have a host ready to welcome you. If not, you should know that it may be easier to find a contact person and obtain funding if you choose one of the partner universities with which LU already has an established collaboration.

Please note that you must not visit a university abroad, but the Erasmus+ staff mobility can be carried out at a hosting organisation, a business enterprise, a publishing house or any other entity that can be of interest to you as an employee at Lund University.

Is this your first time applying for mobility abroad? Then you might want to use the template letter Download template letter we have created. You can modify it as you see fit and then copy the text directly into an email to your contact person, or send the letter as an attachment to a shorter email introducing yourself.

Important to consider before proceeding:

  • Talk to your manager about your plans. They may need to sign your application for Erasmus+ funding. Discuss the purpose of the mobility and what you want to get out of it. What can you bring back to your division, and how can you best share your experience abroad when you return home? Make a plan!

  • Maybe you want to travel with a colleague? There can be several advantages to this.

Read more about librarians Ann-Sofie Zetterberg and Annakim Eltén who travelled to Oxford together.

You can also learn more about how senior lecturers Maria Småberg and Lina Sturfelt visited colleagues at the University of Manchester.

Take inspiration from other other HT staff who have travelled abroad.

  • Are you a member of the teaching staff who wants to apply for Erasmus+ teaching staff mobility? Then you need an exchange agreement between the HT Faculties and your host university. On this website, you can see which universities the HT Faculties are partnered with. Select “Europe” to see the universities included in the Erasmus programme.

Is the university you want not on the list? Don't worry. Contact the International Office, who can help set up an agreement on your behalf.
