Previous exams

Listed below are a few previous exams. Solutions are provided for three of them, but are intentionally omitted for the rest. If time permits, we will solve (parts of) one exam at the last lecture.

Notes:

  • The projects were graded in pre-2018 instances of the course, instead of being just pass/fail like now. This is what the introductory texts in those exams allude to.
  • Problem 1 on the 2018-01 exam is a bit special: second-order problems were considered in more detail in that version of the course. Because there are two derivatives, we lose two powers of LaTeX: \Delta tΔt when going from the local error to the global error, that's why the stated order of the method does not seem to match our standard definitions.
  • The 2020-08 exam was given remotely with monitoring via Zoom. Any written material (printed on paper) was permitted as aid, which is why the questions have a slightly different character, with more focus on knowing what to do rather than how to do it. The upcoming exam will not be given remotely, and will look more similar to the older exams. That is, no aids will be allowed except a pocket calculator (which should not be needed).
