About the oral examination
In the oral exam, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the topics treated in this course. As a preparation for the oral exam it is a good idea to write your own summary of the theory covered in the course.
The oral exam is graded between 0-10, where 5 denotes Pass. To achieve a score above 5, it is expected that you know not only the definitions and theorems, but also the main ideas in their proof.
The oral exams will take place on the following dates:
- 2023-05-26 : Oral examination after the first written examination.
- 2023-08-25 : Oral examination after the resit of the written examination.
Details on the oral examination
The oral examination will assess your knowledge of the theory presented in the course. Since the scope of the lecture is rather large, the content of the lecture notes will be divided into two blocks and you will only be assessed on your knowledge of only one of these blocks. You will be informed on which block you should prepare at least 24 hours before your examination.
- Block A - Structure theory of G-sets (Chapter 2) and Modules over PIDs (Chapter 10)
- Block B - The Sylow Theorems (Chapter 4) and The Artin-Wedderburn Theorem (Chapter 8) and Finiteness properties of rings and modules (Chapter 9)
Extra material will not be assessed in the oral examination.
