Biodiversity and the financial market
Supervisor: Nils Droste (nils.droste@svet.lu.se)
I would like to invite expressions of interest for students who would like to write their theses in a project on biodiversity and the financial market (www.mistrabiopath.se). We aim to understand the relation between land use impacts and financial market behavior. Here, we want to trace impact up the value chains. In particular we are interested about the governance that system, i.e. public and private policies that regulate land use practices and financial flows.
For the topic I would suggest a case study, preferably on the forest sector (in Sweden or the Nordics, incl. EU forest policy and private initiatives such as certification). For the method part I would be interested in (quantitative) policy evaluations. To that end a wide variety of methods is potentially suitable, but I am leaning towards quantifiable indicators for biodiversity.
I would be happy to discuss approach, research questions and methodology with potentially interested candidates. I can picture supervising up to two Master students (or capable Bachelor students) in Environmental Sciences.
As for your potential supervisor, I am a trained environmental economist and have now found a new home in the Department of Political Science. I coordinate and contribute to multiple projects on land use policy, nowadays, mainly forest policy. Find my profile here: https://portal.research.lu.se/en/persons/nils-droste
