How can I make referencing easier?

Start referencing from the beginning!

References to previous literature are an important part of academic writing. To make it easier for you, it's a good idea to manage your references already from the beginning when you start working on your thesis. In several article databases (e.g. LUBsearch and Scopus) you can create an account to save your results. Why not create a joint account for your thesis group?

It's important to be consistent when you write your references. You can normally find the necessary information in library catalogues and article databases, which you then need to adapt to the correct referencing style. At LUSEM, the LUSEM Harvard Referencing Style is used. It shows what references to different source types should look like.

In LUBsearch you can get some help with your references:

LUBsearch Cite

When you've found the reference, click Cite. You can then choose from several different styles and get a suggestion of what the reference could look like. Remember to double check it with the LUSEM Harvard Referencing style guide.

Reference management software

There are different referencing management software you can use to save your references and insert into your documents. Reference management software can save you a lot of effort but they take some time and effort to learn.

Some of the most common reference management programmes are EndNote, Zotero and Mendeley. EndNote can be downloaded from the Student portal while Zotero and Mendeley are open access.
