Routines
Each university has its own routines and procedures for Canvas. Below you will find information about how it works at Lund University.
Routines for accounts
To gain access to Canvas, an LU account is required. This applies to both employees and students. If a person does not have an account, there is more information on how to create an account on the education.lu.se website on the following page: Inloggning i Canvas (only a Swedish version is presently available)
Routines for courses
Courses in Canvas are created by someone with administrative rights using the LU Administration tool. Most often, it is people with administrative duties who handle this, but it is up to each institution/department to decide who should have administrative rights in the system. Information on how to apply for administrative rights can be found on the administrative course page, you can access this course page by joining this Canvas course: Delta i kursen Canvas administrativa yta (only a Swedish version is presently available). Once you have enrolled in the course, information on how to apply for administrative rights via Lucat is available on the following page: Såhär ansöker du (Swedish version only).
Students and teachers are connected to the created course pages using the LU Administration tool.
A course surface has a life cycle that depends on which dates are set for the surface in the course settings. It is important that a course has both start and end dates in order to manage rights and archiving requirements, dates should normally be managed by a person with administrative rights.
Read more about the life cycle of courses below:
- Livscykel för utbildningsyta - för administratörer (only accessible to administrators with access to the administrative surface)
- Livscykel för utbildningsyta - för lärare och studenter
- See also the summary of the course life cycle in the following chart: livscykel i tabellform
(The resources linked above is presently only available in Swedish).
Connections to other systems
- There is a connection to TimeEdit that makes it possible to have the course schedule linked to the Canvas course surface. This connection is managed by a Canvas administrator.
- To manage plagiarism control, there is an integration with Ouriginal (Urkund). This functionality can be activated by teachers from each assignment within courses.
- For managing video material, the tool Canvas Studio is used, Studio is integrated directly into Canvas. Here you will find guides on how to use it: the tool Studio.
- Read more about external applications and integrations in Canvas on the website education.lu.se on the page: New tools and integrations
- It is currently impossible to automatically transfer grading documents from Canvas to Ladok. We will examine whether this is of interest and practically possible as we advance.
