Insert LaTeX

Last revised January 26th 2022

In the text editor toolbar, there is extended functionality so that you can insert mathematical equations to your Canvas page using LaTeX.

Here is an example of text created with LaTeX.

f(x)={1+xif x<32if x=31xif x>3

To display the mathematical equations, click the "Insert Math Equation" icon on the navigation bar (sometimes it can be hidden behind the three dots).

The toolbar in the text editor. Insert math equations is highlighted.

This displays the equation panel that you can select from directly, or you can go to Switch view to Advanced to type in LaTex.

Latex interface

When you switch view to Advanced, you can fill in your text according to the LaTeX notation, and you get a preview (for an example, see the screenshot above). Then, click Insert Equation.

Note that end results are not displayed as long as you are still working in the text editor. They will only show when you click Save.
