Formative or summative assessment?
During the course, assignments or activities can be used as part of learning, which is usually called formative assessment or assessment for learning. The purpose is partly to get a basis for guiding and correcting course participants in their learning, and partly to help the teacher to develop his teaching.
Assignments and activities can also be used to obtain a basis for the final assessment, i.e. summative assessment.
Grading tools in Canvas
These tools in Canvas are created to support the work of formative and summative assessment:
- Submission to teacher - Create assignments
- Submissions visible for everyone – create a submission in Discussions
- Quiz - Test or self test which can be submitted to teacher
Forms of exams
Canvas is not primarily for hall exams or locking. There are often other systems that are better adapted for hall exams. The law on public documents also means that submitted exam answers can be handed out, which is difficult, but possible if Classic Quiz or New Quizzes are used.
Locking or monitoring is not built into Canvas.
