If you’re only adding a few links it’s easiest to add them directly top a module. If they’re a lot of links it’s more lucid to add them on a page

A few links — add them directly to the module

Add external URL

  1. Click on the plus-sign in the module where the link will be added.
  2. Choose External URL
  3. Write or paste the URL in the box “URL”
  4. Write the text the student will click in the box “Page name”
  5. Click add object

Remember to publish the link! Before you publish make sure the link works.

A lot of links — add them to a page

To add a lot of links to a module can look a bit confusing. In that case preferably make a page where you can add them with a bit more structure. You can also give each link a suitable description.

Highlight the text that you want to make a link out of (1). Klick on the link icon in the menu (2)

Write or paste the link and then press Done to insert it.

TIP: You can use the same page in multiple modules. If you’ve done a good and lucid page you may want your students to access it from multiple modules. Click the plus-sign in a module where you want the page and select Page. Instead of making a new page click on the header of a page you already have created. Remember to publish!

Now the exact same page can be found in the other module. Wherever you choose to edit the page it will be updated in every module it’s in.

Make links easy to read

It’s important that you write links that are easy to understand, especially for users that need aid like text-to-speech. Guidance for web developing have complied tips to write clear links (In Swedish) Links to an external site.

Compare the following three exampels:

Here the whole link is read which can be hard to listen to.

Sentence 2 read with text-to-speech

The example may sound good when a student chooses to get it read for them. But if the student only want the link read to them the text-to-speech would read “Here — links to an external site”. This is problematic if the student want a quick overview of the links on a page and simply only gets read here, here, and here.

Sentence 3 read with text-to-speech

This way is to prefer as the text-to-speech works both for students that wants to get the whole text read top them as students that just want to hear the links.

(Text-to-speech can differ depending on which tool its used and its settings. The examples above were made with ClaroRead.)
