A welcoming homepage

Latest revision: 2022-01-24

The homepage is the first page that the students will see when they open the course.

You can preferably use the syllabus or a page to welcome your students. You can present your course briefly — think “elevator-pitch”. On the homepage you can present how the course is built. Remember to give your student an opportunity to present themselves to each other - e.g. in a discussion.

They’re multiple option on how a homepage can look:

  • Syllabus
  • Pages front page
  • Course modules

Syllabus — a practical page

Syllabus

The syllabus is a combined page partly by an area that you can edit like a page, partly a summary of the course’s assignments and other dates from the calendar. Read more about this function on the page Syllabus — a practical page

Pages front page

Pages front page is just an ordinary page that have been selected as the homepage. To select a specific page as the pages front page go to “Pages”, then select the three dots  to the right an “Use as Front Page“. The selected front page will always be on display when you click on ‘“Pages”. To see all pages click on “View all pages”.

Modules

If you select course modules as the homepage, the module overview will be shown when the students open the course, like if they had clicked on “Modules” in the course navigation. With Modules as the homepage it’s of great importance to have a good module structure so that the students understand how to navigate the course.
