Scheduling the publication of a page

In some cases, it may be desirable to prepare course materials in Canvas but delay their availability to students. Canvas offers a feature that allows you to schedule the publication of a page for a specific date and time.

  1. Edit an unpublished page
    To schedule the publication, start by navigating to the unpublished Canvas page and clicking Edit. The option to schedule the publication can be found just below the content field on the edit page.

  2. Set publication date and time
    Here, you can specify the date and time when the page will become available to students. The page will automatically be published at the designated time.

  3. Visibility for teachers and students
    Until the specified publication date, students will not be able to view the page. However, as a teacher, you can easily identify pages that are scheduled for future publication. These pages are marked with a red calendar icon in the module view.

  4. Add to student’s To-Do List
    In the same section of the edit page, there is an option to add the page to the student's "to-do list." By specifying a date here, the page will appear as a link in both the student’s calendar and their to-do list.

Scheduled publication allows you to plan and structure course materials in advance without needing to publish everything at once. Students will receive the content at the appropriate time, and you maintain control over when the material becomes visible.
