How to find a project
Strategies to find a project
It is important to find a suitable project that you find interesting and start preparing your choice in good time. There are numerous of excellent projects available at Lund University. We recommend that you find a project within the Faculty of Medicine but it is possible also to do a project elsewhere. If you perform your project outside the Faculty of Medicine you must find a local supervisor within the Faculty and make sure that there is someone that can co-finance your scholarship.
Resources and tips:
- Search or scroll through the summer research project database below
- Lund University has a Research Portal found here http://portal.research.lu.se/portal/
- Talk to other students, course coordinators and teachers
To contact a research group
Once you have found an interesting project the next step is to contact the researcher and discuss the possibilities. In Sweden, it is not inappropriate for a student to send an email or just walk in and ask a professor if you can do a project in their group. The worst outcome is that they say no. However, there are other issues to consider:
- Will you be able to work together with the supervisor? Are your personalities compatible?
- If you are considering doing your thesis or a PhD following after you summer project you should discuss the possibility get such position before you start.
- Try to meet with the other researchers/PhD students in the research group. Try to see what methods they are using, the atmosphere in the group and if you can imagine yourself working there.
- It is important that you discuss your own and your supervisor’s expectations before you start your project. You are supposed to work 8 weeks full time with the project, but it doesn't necessarily have to be 8 consecutive weeks.
- You need to inform the supervisor that he/she needs to co-finance your scholarship.
If you need advise or have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the steering committee.
Advertised projects
In the project list we have collected suggested projects that are submitted by research groups at the Faculty of Medicine. Please note that this is one way to find a project and you may contact also research groups not present. You can for example search for areas of interest at Lund University Research Portal http://portal.research.lu.se/portal/ and contact the researchers/teachers directly.
Are you a researcher and want to advertise your project here?
To advertise your project in the Project data base you have to send an email with the requested information (see below), preferentially in English, to sommarstipendier@med.lu.se
We need a pdf file, that is named as the project's title.
The document should contain
- Project title
- Your name
- Your email
- A brief description of the project
