The EndNote tab is missing in Word

The EndNote tab may disappear from Word if you have updated your version of Word or if Word has crashed with EndNote running. The tab can also disappear on Mac computers when the operating system is updated.

Windows

The most common solution in Windows is the following steps:

  1. In Word: Click on the tab File and select Options.
  2. Click on Add-ins.
  3. Change the Manage option to Disabled Items.
  4. Click on Go...
  5. Select all EndNote items and click Enable.
  6. Click on OK.

Mac

Note! If you use an MLS computer (Mac.LU.SE) you need to contact IT (servicedesk@lu.se) as installation of the EndNote tab requires admin rights.

The most commons solution in Mac is the following steps:

  1. Make sure Word is closed and go into EndNote.
  2. Click on the EndNote menu and select Customizer.
  3. Tick the box in front of the Cite While You Write option.
  4. Click on Next and then Done.
  5. Then open Word and look for the EndNote tab in the ribbon.
